President’s Message

By Elizabeth Nook, AIA

Hello Members!

Didn’t you just receive the August newsletter or are the weeks moving faster and faster? On the one hand, I take that as a blessing … work is busy, and the calendar is full. Being a sole practitioner architect, this is considered good fortune. Further, September also brings that ‘back to school’ vibe, with a renewed sense of purpose and an eagerness to learn and experience new things. Even though I’m not a PSL (pumpkin spice latte) fan, there is a part of me that just wants to slow this time down, be more present and observe the changing seasons. Anybody with me?

We’ve got a ‘couple of things’ keeping us busy at AIA Maryland. Last week, I had the opportunity to meet with members of the College of Fellows for a networking event held at our chapter house. It was thrilling and inspiring to mingle with the illuminati of our profession, and our executive director, Sandi Worthman, put on a great party. Many thanks to her for always making it look so easy.

Secondly, we’ve been continuing the conversation with National about creating a task force to explore alternative paths to licensure and will be meeting with NCARB next week to build consensus.

In addition, the pandemic affected the timing of National’s scheduled accreditation process for each component. We were fortunate to have them lighten the load during the most serious time of the pandemic, but they are back on schedule. Over the next few months, we will be meeting to make sure all of our ‘i’s are dotted and t’s are crossed’ to maintain our component accreditation.

Lastly, we are so excited to be celebrating Maryland’s finest architecture at this year’s AIA Maryland Excellence in Design Awards! Scheduled for September 29th at the Center for Architecture and Design in Baltimore, it is sure to be a celebratory evening.

As always, we thank you for your support.

Make your voice heard this year!

Cheers,

Elizabeth
