The AIA Trust has announced the recipients of the 2025 Small Component Grants, recognizing components that are developing impactful programs to support architects and the profession. This year’s grant recipients showcase a diverse range of initiatives designed to strengthen small firms, advance resiliency, and empower underrepresented voices across the architecture community.
We are proud to share that AIA Maryland has been selected for our education series:
Empowering Small Architecture Firms: Social Media & Business Etiquette for Success
This series will equip small firm leaders with practical tools to enhance their business etiquette and social media strategies, directly supporting the long-term viability and growth of small architectural practices throughout Maryland. Additionally, the program welcomes participation from members of the Association for Preservation Technology (APT) Washington, American Energy Council of Engineers (AECE) Maryland, and American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) Capital Beltway—fostering interdisciplinary collaboration.
Joining us in this year’s cohort of grant recipients are:
AIA Honolulu for their Resilient by Design: Hawai‘i Building Code & Hazard Mitigation Training Series, a four-session program tailored to Hawai‘i-based architects, engineers, planners, and students. The series will provide critical knowledge of building codes and hazard mitigation strategies suited to the state’s unique climate, land constraints, and risk profile.
AIA Northern Virginia for their full-day event, “So, You Want to Start Your Own Firm?”, aimed at equipping up to 100 attendees with essential knowledge on business registration, legal requirements, marketing strategies, work-life balance, and resources needed to confidently start and sustain a successful architecture firm.
AIA Puerto Rico Women in Architecture (WiA) Committee, launching a series of initiatives focused on mentorship, licensure support, networking, and leadership development for women in architecture. Grant funding will also support the relaunch of their WiA website, providing a vital platform for community engagement.
AIA San Francisco for their six-part professional development series designed to help small and mid-size firm leaders navigate challenges in legal, financial, HR, marketing, and emerging technologies, building resilient, future-ready businesses.
Each of these initiatives reflects the AIA Trust’s mission to support the success and sustainability of small components and firms, providing targeted resources and programs that address the evolving needs of the profession.
AIA Maryland is honored to be among this year’s recipients and looks forward to delivering impactful programming for our members and partners.
