AIA Maryland’s Legislative Priorities
Resilience
The frequency of disasters related to weather, climate change, or water hazard have increased by a factor of 5 over the past 50 years. Our efforts to prepare for these disasters haven’t paralleled the frequency of occurrences. We strongly feel that one of the best ways to respond to a potential disaster is to be prepared for it.
Adaptive Re-Use
A sustainable approach to community resilience. Reusing our existing building stock is a highly sustainable approach to preserving our existing resources, while re-purposing our real estate.
Building Electrification
Several bills introduced in this session help with the move toward reducing reliance on fossil fuels and lowering the energy burden of low to moderate income households. Two
Duty to Defend
We support legislation to prohibit provisions in design professional contracts that require the design professional to indemnify or hold harmless other parties unless the design professional is at fault for causing a loss or damage.
