Annapolis, MD – May 2025 – AIA Maryland is proud to announce the recipients of its 2025 Academic Scholarships, which recognize the promise, passion, and potential of future leaders in architecture. This year’s awardees, Adesola Adenekan of Morgan State University and Kaitlynn Carson of Anne Arundel Community College, represent the best of Maryland’s rising talent in design and community impact.

Adesola Adenekan, recipient of the Master of Architecture Scholarship, is an international student at Morgan State University. His impressive résumé includes internships with Powerhouse Company in Rotterdam and the AIA Headquarters Renewal Project in Washington, D.C. Adesola is dedicated to sustainability, adaptive reuse, and the transformative power of inclusive design.

“I aspire to create spaces that foster connection, resilience, and well-being, particularly in communities that have historically been underserved,” said Adenekan.

Kaitlynn Carson, recipient of the Associate Degree Scholarship, is currently enrolled at Anne Arundel Community College and works at KCI Technologies. Her story is one of career reinvention and passion for design. With a background in administrative support, she pivoted toward architecture after being inspired by her colleagues’ work. She now excels in architectural coursework and is building a future around meaningful, community-based design.

“Architecture is something that excites me. This scholarship gives me the chance to learn more, do more, and connect with professionals who inspire me,” said Carson.
